Weekly Reflection: Assistive Tech & Intentionality in Technology Enabled Learning Design
This week I participated in the Assistive tech and technology 1/2 of the class as I had already participated in the PSII visit a few weeks prior. During the self paced workshop I learned how to make photos and videos more accessible.
I wanted to focus my post in relation to my H5P video where I introduced the screenshotting app of Gyazo.
Great Screenshotting Resource for Images

Why do you think many digital accessibility practices aren’t more well-known or commonly used?
I think that digital accessible practices are not commonly used as they are not easily found or aren’t easily accessible. I think that resources that can help digital accessibility are not commonly used as they aren’t easily found for educators. Therefore, I believe a solution for these resources to become more accessible would be for teacher’s to share their resources more and make them more readily available. I have linked the Gyazo Webstore app here that I used above to make it more accessible.
Are there any digital accessibility practices that surprised you? Why?
The one accessibility practice that surprised me was the use of colour when displaying information to other’s. I learned from looking at the colour contrast checker that different colours have various levels of accessibility.

I have noticed before when working on presentations through Google Slides or Canva that certain colours are harder to read or follow on a slide and have therefore strayed away from using them. As a result, after reviewing this chart and the colour contrast checker I will be more mindful when creating slides and resources during my practicum that will be more accessible and reader friendly.
